ART SAFARI
Art Safari is the first professional and public art pavilion in Romania, designed for both heritage and contemporary art. Art Safari will bring together more than 100 galleries and art dealers, museums and cultural institutions, both from Romania and abroad, that will exhibit high quality artworks, from paintings and sculptures to design and collectibles, in a refined curatorial manner.
Bucharest is a unique place where the past and the future collide. Also known as “Little Paris” at the beginning of the twentieth century, amputated by several demolitions carried out during the communist era and changed by the new architecture of the past twenty-five years, Bucharest is trying to define its identity. An identity that can only be achieved through cultural recovery. Art Safari, by the public cultural event it organizes, wants to place Bucharest again on the European cultural map.
Why Art Safari? Because Romania’s cultural history has been marked by repeated interruptions and adverse circumstances imposed on its artistic activity to the point of a complete breakage in its communication with the international art scene. Art Safari Bucharest aims to build a strong connection between heritage and contemporary art, artist-gallery-collector, cultural institution and the art market, so as to bring the entire cultural system closer to the public.
Art Safari Bucharest represents the passion to jointly build a local artistic system at European standards by involving all art market players.

OPIUM & SILYMARIN
Sometimes
I feel like I want to live
Far from the metropolis
Just walk through that door
Sometimes
I feel like I want to fly
Reach out to the painted sky
A prisoner to the wind
A bird on the wing
Sometimes
I feel the ocean in my blood
See rain from the sky above
Her salt brined tears
And now
Those tears leave taste on my tongue
Like the warm rush you get from
Black opium
Black opium
Sometimes
I feel like I want to leave
Behind all these memories
And walk through that door
Outside
The black night calls my name
But all roads look the same
They lead nowhere
They lead nowhere
I feel like I want to live
Far from the metropolis
Just walk through that door
Sometimes
I feel like I want to fly
Reach out to the painted sky
A prisoner to the wind
A bird on the wing

The Mask Theatre - Living Statues International Festival
Teatrul Masca
LIVING STATUES FESTIVAL
Among those arts that can be performed out in the street, that of the living statue holds a special place. Mysterious, surprising, often funny, sometimes profound, one can not go by a living statue without noticing it. And that is because it’s power to catch the eye like a magnet, to incite one to react and to meditate on the subject of human condition. One can not easily forget the image of a well composed living statue, that is for sure. Any turist who was in Barcelona would have undoubtedly seen the human statues of La Rambla, for example. Strange is the power of the living statues if it can easily hold its place among against the works of Gaudi.
The project came to life in 2005. The idea behind it was, at the time and still is that we are not alone. We were very much aware that this form of theatre that we propose to the cultural world of Romania – a non-verbal theatre, focusing on gesture and body expression – is part of an European network of institutions or people with the same artistic creed. As a valid example of this affiliation, Mask Theatre is part of Lecoq Network, which includes all European theaters established by students of the former great teacher. From this sense of belonging to an European community emerged naturally the initiative of a festival that we named EUROPEAN MASKS VISIT… THE MASK.
The purpose of this festival was to familiarize the Romanian audience with a unique theatrical style, very little practiced in Romania, one of the theater of movement, gesture, mime, clowning and body expressionHe's a man of the past and one of the present,
a man who hides behind a mask behind a mask;
a clown, a fool, believing it cool to be down
or that the game is all about who laughs the last.
So he tells all his problems to his friends and relations,
exposes his neuroses to their view.
They accept as fact every masochistic mumble of his act –
But how could they know what was false and what was true?
Sometimes when he wakes
he feels he's walked into a dream
but all it takes
to remind him things are what they seem
is the belief that the man behind the mask can really dance
Pirouetting smile
he feels himself cavorting,
Pierrot for a while
before aborting
to find relief in the shelter of the dark, most telling mask.
After all the pantomimes are ended
he peels all the make-up off his face
to reveal, beneath, the tears running all down his cheeks:
alone, he opens to the world… but it's much too late.
He's been left, in the end, without a face.

Mineriada 13-15 iunie 1990
www.hotnews.ro
In June 1990, the Romanian authorities violently suppressed the peaceful demonstration of University Square in Bucharest. For many, that gesture showed that the ruling National Salvation Front, the self-proclaimed vanguard of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989, was just the old Communist Party under a new label and that President Ion Iliescu had remained true to the Stalinist convictions he shared while serving as a communist high-ranking decision maker during the 1950s and the 1960s. Iliescu called on the miners of the Valea Jiului to come to Bucharest to defend the nascent democracy against the protesters. Various national and local government members helped organize the transportation of the miners to Bucharest. Once in the capital, the miners beat up defenseless students, young girls with short skirts and men with beard (conforming to the bourgeois stereotype), destroyed property, and ransacked the headquarters of opposition political parties. Iliescu publicly thanked them for their bravery. During the 1990s, the miners came or tried to come to Bucharest five other times.
During the following twenty years, the civil society unsuccessfully tried to find out the truth about those events. In 1998, it asked for access to file 75/P/1998, prepared by a small team of prosecutors and gathering evidence of state brutality against peaceful protesters. Curiously, At the time when that request was made, the country was ruled by the anticommunist opposition, the Democratic Convention. From 2000 to 2004, when the Social Democrats (the conservative wing of the Salvation Front) formed the government and Iliescu again served as President, all efforts to prosecute the case were stalled, for obvious reasons. But the situation continued even after their political rivals, the Democrats (later renamed the Democrat-Liberals) and the Liberals, won the general elections of 2004. After the European Court of Human Rights ordered the Romanian state to surrender the file to the victims of the June 1990 mineriada. But for over a year the Romanian prosecutors refused to comply with that court order. It was only after the leader of the Association 21 December 1989, Teodor Mihaes, went of hunger strike for a staggering 78 days that the entire copy of the file was released to the civil society.

Amused to Death
"Two things that have haunted me most are the days when I had to collect the paybooks; and when I left Bill Hubbard in no-man's-land."
"I was picked up and taken into their trench. And I'd no sooner taken two or three steps down the trench when I heard a call,
'Hello Razz, I'm glad to see you. This is my second night here,' and he said
'I'm feeling bad,' and it was Bill Hubbard, one of the men we'd trained in England, one of the original battalion. I had a look at his wound, rolled him over; I could see it was probably a fatal wound. You could imagine what pain he was in, he was dripping with sweat; and after I'd gone about three shellholes, traversed that, had it been...had there been a path or a road I could have done better.
He pummeled me, 'Put me down, put me down, I'd rather die, I'd rather die, put me down.' I was hoping he would faint. He said 'I can't go any further, let me die.' I said 'If I leave you here Bill you won't be found, let's have another go.' He said 'All right then.' And the same thing happened; he couldn't stand it any more, and I had to leave him there, in no-man's-land."

Petru si Pavel - Feast of Saints Peter and Paul

Exhibition - 'BUCHAREST IN BLACK & WHITE'
(Paul Morand, 1935)

Orasul ajunge sa-si piarda urma in propriul praf.
(Vlad Eftenie, „ Bucurestii in tranzitie”)

Părintele Arsenie Boca spunea, potrivit apologeticum.ro:
Cine-i Moise şi cine-i Maica Domnului ?

Pink Floyd - Dogs
Dogs (Waters, Gilmour) 17:06
You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need.
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street,
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed.
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight,
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style.
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder.
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you
get older.
And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south,
Hide your head in the sand,
Just another sad old man,
All alone and dying of cancer.
And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown.
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone.
And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw
around.
So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone,
Dragged down by the stone.
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused.
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used.
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise.
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this
maze?
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no-one has a real friend.
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner
And everything's done under the sun,
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer.
Who was born in a house full of pain.
Who was trained not to spit in the fan.
Who was told what to do by the man.
Who was broken by trained personnel.
Who was fitted with collar and chain.
Who was given a pat on the back.
Who was breaking away from the pack.
Who was only a stranger at home.
Who was ground down in the end.
Who was found dead on the phone.
Who was dragged down by the stone.

Argumentum Ornithologicum J. L. Borges
'I close my eyes and see a flock of birds. The vision lasts a second or perhaps less; I don’t know how many birds I saw. Were they a definite or an indefinite number? This problem involves the question of the existence of God. If God exists, the number is definite, because how many birds I saw is known to God. If God does not exist, the number is indefinite, because nobody was able to take count. In this case, I saw fewer than ten birds (let’s say) and more than one; but I did not see nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, or two birds. I saw a number between ten and one, but not nine, eight, seven, six, five, etc. That number, as a whole number, is inconceivable; ergo, God exists.'
[From Dreamtigers, by Jorge Luis Borges, translated by Mildred Boyer]
Some call him The Voice and still marvel at his thunderous, operatic rants and his celestial falsetto. Others follow him as a good-natured English philosopher, a wise, unassuming man who can express our feelings better than anybody, especially when trying to untangle the mysteries of love, memories of childhood, the castrating shadow of religion, the perversity of politics, or the doom of mankind, often portrayed as a spaceship drifting along, worthy of a Stanislav Lem story.
Peter Joseph Andrew Hammill (born 5 November 1948) is an English singer-songwriter, and a founding member of the progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator. Most noted for his vocal abilities, his main instruments are guitar and piano. He also acts as a record producer for his own recordings, and occasionally for other artists.
"Fool's Mate" is his debut solo album. The title is both a chess and tarot reference. It was produced by Trident Studios' in-house producer John Anthony. The album was recorded in 1971, in the midst of one of Van der Graaf Generator's most prolific periods. Peter Hammill used the album to record a backlog of songs which were much shorter and simpler than his Van der Graaf Generator material, and declared on the original album sleeve: "This isn't intended to be any kind of statement of my present musical position, but at the same time, it is an album which involves a great deal of me, the person, basically a return to the roots."
Personnel:
* John Anthony - background vocals, producer
* Hugh Banton - organ, piano, keyboards, background vocals
* Rod Clements - bass, violin
* Guy Evans - percussion, drums, background vocals
* Robert Fripp - electric guitar
* Peter Hammill - acoustic guitar, guitar, piano, keyboards, vocals
* David Jackson - saxophone
* Ray Jackson - harmonica, mandolin, harp, background vocals
* Nic Potter - bass
* Martin Pottinger - drums
* Paul Whitehead - drums

Carol I of Romania / 20 April 1839 - 10 October 1914
Carol I (20 April 1839 / 10 October 1914), born Prince Karl of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen was the ruler of Romania from 1866 to 1914. He was elected Ruling Prince (Domnitor) of the Romanian United Principalities on 20 April 1866 after the overthrow of Alexandru Ioan Cuza by a palace coup. After the defeat of the Ottoman Empire (1878) in the Russo-Turkish War, he declared Romania a sovereign nation (the country had been under the nominal suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire until then). He was proclaimed King of Romania on 26 March [O.S. 14 March] 1881. He was the first ruler of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen dynasty, which ruled the country until the proclamation of a republic in 1947.
Despre CAROL I, Constantin C. Giurescu scria:

HAVASI - SYMPHONIC: The Storm
Winter slowly sets in: Romanian capital Bucharest sees first snow of the season
It started to snow in Romania’s capital Bucharest on Saturday afternoon, October 25, with big flakes, after two days of cold, windy weather: the first snow of the season.
Meteorologists had warned that the unusual warm weather for this time of the year – think 20 degrees Celsius – will come to an end, and make room for what’s more likely for end-October: temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, and 1-2 degrees Celsius up in the mountains.
The previously sunny Bucharest is now under a wave of snow and blizzards, and temperature is around 2 degrees Celsius. On Saturday afternoon, Bucharest was the only place in the country where it snowed, but it was windy and cold in many other areas of Romania as well.

Sfantul Dimitrie - Saint Dimitrie
Thousands of pilgrims from across Romania and abroad have queued to pray at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, at the Venerated Wood of the Holy Cross, brought from Greece and at the Holy Relics of Saint Dimitrie the New, protector of Bucharest. Romanians celebrate Saint Dimitrie on October 27 but the pilgrimage goes on during the entire week. The feast of Saint Pious Dimitrie the New, Protector of Bucharest, whose relics are kept in the Patriarchal Cathedral, has always represented a distinguished spiritual time for the faithful of Bucharest as well as for many pilgrims from all over the country.
A series of manifestations are organized between October 23 and 29, among which an exhibition entitled The Orthodox Creed – books, icons and holy crosses, in the Europa Christiana room of the Patriarchal Palace. On Tuesday, October 26, when Saint Great Martyr Dimitrie, the Myrrh Bearer is celebrated, His Holiness Bartholomew, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople and His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Chruch will inaugurate the Centre for Patrimony of “Saint Constantine Brâncoveanu” of the Romanian Patriarchate, in 63 Maria Rosetti St., Bucharest.Unless you want to take part in the ceremonies held this week at the Patriarchal Palace near Unirii Square in Bucharest, we suggest avoiding car trips in the area, which is overcrowded by pilgrims during these days.
On Saint Dimitrie Romanians called Dumitru or Dumitra also celebrate their name days.
Several pre-Christian traditions on Saint Dimitrie have survived for centuries in Romania: the day before Saint Dimitrie, fires are lit in Romanian traditional villages and children usually jump over the fire to stay healthy during the entire year. The Saint is also the protector of shepherds, who can now figure out what sort of a winter will follow. Shepherds place their coat in the middle of the herd and wait to see what sort of sheep will lay on it. If a black sheep lays on the coat, the winter will be mild, the tradition goes. If a white sheep will come instead, the winter will be harsh. Another popular tradition says the winter will be mild if the weather will be bad on Saint Dimitrie and that a harsh winter will follow if the Saint Dimitrie day will bring good weather.romania-insider
